High Power Testing

Easat has designed and built the antenna system for a unique and highly successful High Power Radio Frequency Environmental Generator. This system is used to test the susceptibility of full size aircraft, armoured vehicles, or other complex platforms, to radiation. It is similar to more conventional EMI/EMC testing, but at field strengths far higher than is normally possible. This simulates threats from accidental or deliberate potentially lethal RF sources.

Three antennas are used, having a total of seven RF feeds. That is, seven RF frequencies are provided for, between 1.1 GHz and 38 GHz.

The maximum radiated field strengths vary from 1 MW peak at 1.1 GHz, distributed evenly over a beam having a cross section of 2 square metres, to 250 KW peak at 38 GHz. The distance to the RF focus from the antenna is approximately 20 metres and the antennas are provided with remote controlled azimuth and elevation movements, thus allowing the RF beam to scan a very large stationary target. This installation avoids the necessity for the target to be moved during the test procedure, and is believed to be quicker and more effective in operation than other high power RF test facilities.

Easat is able to develop the technology to suit particular customer requirements.
